Everything you need to know about how to use dating app Bumble

Despite the global pandemic that came our way with people unable to meet in person, Bumble soared in popularity, and had 100 million users in 2020 alone.

The app allows people who are in the search of finding love, dates and new people, to meet.

The app has a similar style to other dating apps, such as Tinder and Hinge, where you swipe through potential suitors – but Bumbles brings with it a twist.

The ever-growing dating app empowers women to have more control, as they are the ones to make the first move.

Anyone can swipe through the app, but women are the one’s who make the first move and start the conversation.

Women make the first move on the Bumble dating app by messaging first

On their website, Bumble explains: “We’re levelling the playing field and changing the dynamics of dating. We believe relationships should begin with respect and equality”.

How to use Bumble

Firstly, download the free Bumble app from the app store on. your mobile phone and create an account. This can be done through Facebook or email.

Next, create a profile including up to six photos of yourself, a bio explaining a little bit about you, including job, gender and education (if you want).

Then set your location, allowing Bumble to search your area for potential matches. You can set this to as far as you’re willing to travel.

Choose the age range and gender that you are looking to date. The app is open to all sexualities and does not require you to define this.

If your preference isn’t a male/female match, the app will allow either person to start the conversation first.

You can also connect your Instagram account and Spotify so potential suitors can learn more about you, then you’re ready to swipe!

You will swipe right to “like” and left to “reject”, and when two people have both liked they will be matched. This then puts the power in the woman’s hands.

On Bumble the women have to make the first move to start the conversation and send the first message.

If the woman doesn’t send a message within 24 hours of being matched, the pair will be unmatched and lost.

Men can extend the window for an extra 24 hours for the women to reply before unmatching, but this comes at a fee.

But if the women send a message and the suitor doesn’t reply within a day the match will also disappear.

The app even gives women’s suggestions of how to start a conversation with someone who’s caught their eye.
