Live: West Indies vs Australia in Jamaica
Cummins reflects on a ‘mad’ day’s cricket
The Australian captain is talking to ESPN, still clearly stunned by a ridiculous day of cricket.
He’s reflecting on the series as a whole.
“I mean this match was madness today, it seemed to be played in fast forward,” Cummins says.
“Great series, every test match there was some testing moments where it felt like it could have gone either way.”
“But I’m really proud of the group, how they managed to find their way through those.”
Chase ‘heartbroken’ by ground hog day collapse
Spare a moment’s thought for new West Indian captain Roston Chase.
What a horrific end to his debut series as skipper.
He’s talking to ESPN about his side’s almost-record-breaking nightmare innings.
“It’s heartbreaking, obviously to be in a position like that where we think we could have won the game and then come out and have that poor batting display” Chase says.
“It’s been something that has been reoccurring for the whole series so that makes it even more disappointing.”
Starc full of praise for ‘amazing’ Boland
This Test was the first time all four Aussie quicks had played in the same team.
Boland announced his re-introduction in quite a remarkable way – claiming a hat-trick in the dying moments of the third Test.
Starc is full of praise for his returning teammate.
“He’s amazing isn’t he?” Starc tells ESPN.
“Gee, he would’ve played so many more Test matches in another team.
“But every time he comes in he’s on the money, like we saw this week with a hat-trick.
“He’s never far from the perfect length as soon as he comes in.
“This week he got his opportunity and showed what a fantastic Test bowler he is.”
Starc named player-of-the-match
No prizes for guessing that one.
Samuel Badree is talking to the man of the moment.
“It worked out pretty well for the week. It’s been a fantastic series – I think we’ve seen some difficult batting conditions throughout but fantastic series for us,” Starc tells ESPN.
“It’s been a good few days, very enjoyable, so I go home with a big smile on my face.”
Badree is asking how the bowlers were able to wreak such havoc in broad daylight today.
“We didn’t think it would happen as quickly today until the sun went down a bit,” Starc says.
“Whether it was the wind – it was pretty blustery out there.
“But I reckon our bowling attack has been pretty on the money.”
Brilliant Boland
Scotty Boland’s hat trick was amazing!!! My throat is sore I screamed so loud 😂 Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy!

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any more remarkable…
A record-breaking morning
If you’re just waking up, you have missed a truly remarkable morning of cricket.
Australia has won the third Test by 176 runs after bowling out the West Indies for 27.
Yes, 27 – the second lost team total in the history of Test match cricket.

Here’s a look at some more ridiculous happenings from today:
- Mitchell Starc became just the second player to take three wickets in the first over of an innings
- Starc took his 400th Test wicket with his fourth of the day
- He broke the record for the fastest five wicket haul ever in Tests – taking just 15 deliveries for the milestone
- Scott Boland became the 10th Australian to take a Test match hat-trick
- Sam Konstas mis-fielded to let West Indies off the lowest score in Tests
- Starc struck next ball to end the game
Vision of Scott Boland’s hat-trick
Boland is talking to ESPN post game.
He’s perhaps speaking slightly understatedly.
“I was just trying to keep putting good balls in good areas,” Boland says.
“Happy to start off well and get a couple wickets.”
Australia wins by 176 runs
What an absolutely ridiculous couple hours of cricket.

Mitchell Starc became just the second bowler to take three wickets in the first over of a Test match innings, took his 400th career wicket, then completed the fastest ever five wicket haul in the format.
Scott Boland picked up a hat-trick after tea and the West Indies were bowled out for 27, the second lowest total in the history of Test match cricket.
Australia wins by 176 runs in the most bizarre of circumstances.
STARC HAS SIX! AUSTRALIA WINS!
Full, straight and fast, Jayden Seales swings at one that cannons into his stumps.
Fittingly, it is Mitchell Starc who adds the final exclamation point to a remarkable half day of cricket.
Starc’s figures of 6/9 are his best ever.
15th over: Starc looking to finish things off
The West Indies remain stuck on the lowest Test score of all time.
Starc is coming around the wicket to Joseph.
And a misfield gets them off the dreaded 26!
Sam Konstas lets one past him in the cordon and the batters get a single. Not a great morning for young Sammy K…
14th over: Boland continues after hat-trick
The West Indies are now 9-26.
The lowest Test match score of all time is 26.
What is happening out there?
Number 11 Jayden Seales manages to see off the first couple balls, fending and then playing and missing.
And swinging hard! He misses it completely.
That’s over.
SCOTT BOLAND HAS A HAT-TRICK!!!!
Oh my goodness!!!
What is happening out there!
Scott Boland becomes the 10th Australian to take a Test match hat-trick.
His third wicket is the best of the lot, bowling Jamel Warrican with one that angled in straight through the gate.
Australia are one wicket away!
14th over continued: Boland on a hat-trick
For the second time today, an Australian has a chance at a hat-trick…
BOLAND HAS TWO!
And sure enough, the decision is overturned.
That was always likely to be the case, Shamar Joseph looked absolutely dead in the water.
Boland has two in two and is on a hat-trick!
14th over: Boland has five to come
Big shout! Coming around the wicket to the left-handed new batter Shamar Joseph, Boland is using the angle to cannon into the back pad.
It looks very out but the umpire doesn’t agree.
Cummins sends it upstairs….
Boland gets in on the act!
Line and length and Justin Greaves can do nothing but get a thick edge on one that moves away from him a touch.
It’s a really comfortable catch for Beau Webster at second slip.
13th over: Starc goes again
Really good shot by Greaves to begin the over, creamed to Steve Smith at mid-off.
Smudge falls back and doesn’t collect it cleanly as the batters scamper through for a single. He looked like he was in a bit of discomfort there as the ball cannoned into his sore finger.
Alzarri is underneath a short one before just about keeping one out.
Another drop! A thick outside edge from Alzarri Joseph and it flies high to Sam Konstas at third slip. It’s not a straightforward catch, but one you’d hope he would take. The 19-year-old’s torrid tour continues with his second drop of the day.
Joseph is underneath one to finish the over.
12th over: Boland gets a go
He must have been sitting in the field hardly able to contain himself in that first session.
Luckily for Boland, Starc and Hazlewood haven’t gobbled up all the wickets just yet.
Alzarri is leaving outside off stump and then fending at one that is stopped by Cam Green at gully.
High! It’s an expansive drive by Alzarri, who strides forward and miscues it high into the air. It falls safe as a retreating Steve Smith can’t make the ground to get underneath it.
A really good one to finish things off! On a length and jagging away, Alzarri misses it completely.
11th over: Starc starts things up after tea
Unsurprisingly, it’s the record breaker to take the ball after tea.
I hope everyone has had a chance to catch their breath!
Wide to begin – his worst ball of the day by some margin.
Chance! The ball flies past short leg, just out of reach. The batters run a single.
And Joseph is well underneath a short one to finish a comparatively tame session opening over.
