Nelson College students will be taking their own food to school for the coming week after a fire broke out in the dining room kitchen.
A Nelson College fire has left the canteen out of service for at least a week.
A Nelson College spokeswoman, Sarah Cahill said in a statement the fire started in the dining room kitchen about 9pm on Friday night.
“Importantly no-one was in the dining room at the time and no one was injured.
“The fire alarms were activated and the fire brigade was able to put out the fire quickly. Luckily it did not spread to other parts of the school.”
She said the school would be open on Monday morning at 9.30am but the canteen would not be available.
“Students will need to bring their own food for at least this coming week.”
