What to Serve/Pair with Your Quick Chicken Tortellini Soup

To make this soup a more filling meal, sometimes I like to pair it with bread and a salad. It pairs perfectly with these Quick and Easy Homemade Breadsticks with Parmesan and a classic spinach salad. Popular Substitutions & Additions

If you are in a hurry, you can use shredded rotisserie chicken in your soup instead of the chicken breast. I like to keep some in the freezer so I can whip something up in a hurry.

For some added veggies and texture, you can mix some fresh baby spinach into your chicken tortellini soup.

Another time saving tip – some stores sell bagged shredded carrots. Feel free to use these instead of chopping up carrots on your own.

If you are watching your sodium intake, opt for a low sodium chicken broth along with the low sodium soy sauce.

Storage & Leftovers

This soup is delicious when it is leftover! In fact, I think that because the spices have had extra time to sink it, it is almost as delicious as it was when it was fresh! Once your leftover tortellini soup has cooled, put it in a sealed container and stick it in the fridge, where it will last for up to 3 days. You can reheat a large portion of the soup in a pot on the stove, or microwave individual portions until they are warm.

Chicken Tortellini Soup FAQs

Do I have to use frozen tortellini, or can I use fresh?

For this easy chicken tortellini soup, you will want to use frozen tortellini. Fresh tortellini may expand too much when you put it in the hot soup mixture and the filling may come out.

Can I use other flavors of tortellini?

Sure! If your grocery store has tortellini flavors other than cheese, feel free to use those in this soup. I think that cheese and spinach tortellini would be delicious!

How small do I need to chop my vegetables?

This is totally a personal preference, but I usually chop mine up pretty small – not quite minced because you still want the texture, but small enough that they will cook quickly.
