Teenager dead after Scarborough shooting

A teenager is dead after a shooting in Scarborough on Saturday, police said.

Toronto police responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Kennedy Road and Antrim Crescent, south of Highway 401, just after 6 p.m.

Officers found a teenage victim with gunshot wounds near a highrise at 11 Antrim Cres. and performed CPR. Paramedics took the victim to a trauma centre, where he was pronounced dead.

Police believe shots were fired from a black SUV that travelled eastbound on Antrim Crescent and then southbound on Kennedy Road after the shooting.

Duty Insp. Katherine Stephenson told a media briefing on Saturday that the victim, whose name and age have not been released, ran a short distance before collapsing near a basketball court. Police said the boy’s friends were witnesses to the shooting.

Shell casings were found near the boy, police confirmed. The homicide unit has taken over the investigation.

Anyone with any information or dashcam video is urged to contact investigators at 41 Division at 416-808-4100 or CrimeStoppers at 416-222-8477.
