This ‘Thor: Love And Thunder’ Sequence Was Added During Reshoots

Thor: Love and Thunder co-writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson revealed a major part of the film that was added during reshoots.

Natalie Portman returned to the MCU as Jane Foster after a nine-year absence. Since Portman was notably absent in Ragnarok and the Avengers films, the breakup between Thor and Jane took place off-screen.

Thor and Jane’s Messy Breakup

In Thor: Love and Thunder, audiences finally learn what happened between Jane and Thor in a hilarious montage sequence. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Love and Thunder co-writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson revealed that sequence was added late in the game:

“That was all Taika. That was something Taika conceived of in additional photography and they shot after they shot principal. There was definitely a lot of back and forth on what happened. What do we want to show? It was not just conversations with Taika, but conversations with Chris and Natalie. Really trying to flesh out, ‘How much do we want to show? How much of it is ex-girlfriend vs. Mighty Thor?’ Really trying to find the balance across the board of what is Jane’s story and what should be the focus? Something that came to the surface was wanting to know more about the past of that relationship.”

Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor solo film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
